Ever since savvy manufacturers realised that gamers were prepared to pay top dollar for pieces of near-useless plastic that claim to improve their gaming experience, there’s been a flood of largely pointless peripherals for home consoles. News: No left-handed mode in Skyward Sword

Southpaws will have to make do.

Nintendo’s incoming motion-controlled epic The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword does not feature a left-handed mode, the publisher has confirmed to Kotaku.

This could cause lefties a few issues as the MotionPlus-enabled game demands rather more precision from your sword swipes than the more primitive Twilight Princess did back in 2006.

The games sees Link wielding his sword in his right hand, matching the gestures the player makes with the Wii Remote.

Resi Mercs! UFC! Dynasty Warriors!

The cast of Capcom’s survival horror series reunites this week for Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D. Heard the name before? You’ve probably played the all-fighting spin-off as a mini-game in Resi 4 and 5. It’s expanded here, with a larger cast and extra features.

American Football title BackBreaker: Vengeance is another spin-off born out of a mini-mode. It’s a downloadable arcade style title for PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade, born out of the original BackBreaker’s Tackle Alley gameplay.

News: Red Wii confirmed for UK

Special edition Mario DSi also incoming.

The special edition red Mario Wii revealed last week will arrive in UK stores on 29th October, Nintendo has confirmed, two weeks before it goes on sale in Japan.

Official Nintendo Magazine reports that the pack will include a red Wii, a red Wii Remote Plus, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Wii Sports and a preloaded copy of the original NES Donkey Kong.

This differs slightly from the Japanese bundle, which comes with Super Mario Bros. rather than Donkey Kong.
