News: Mega Man Universe confirmed

Dead Rising 2 producer Keiji Inafune is working on downloadable Xbox Live and PlayStation Network title Mega Man Universe, Capcom has confirmed.

“For the next chapter in this legacy of excellence, Capcom aims to deliver the most creative Mega Man experience yet. In Mega Man Universe, imagination is the star of the game,” the official blurb says.

“We are thrilled to finally be able to announce Mega Man Universe,” Kenji Inafune, head of research and development management, and Mega Man’s original designer, said.

News: PS3 secures exclusive Mafa II DLC

An offer you can’t refuse?

The first batch of downloadable Mafia II content will be exclusive to PlayStation 3, 2K Games has announced.

First-hand buyers will be supplied with a voucher to download The Betrayal of Jimmy for free. But buy second-hand and you’ll need to spend £6.29.

Is this 2K Games’ answer to EA’s Project Ten Dollar?

News: Sony: 3D gives you "competitive edge"

“You can process information more quickly.”

Sony has proclaimed the benefits of 3D gaming to its hardcore fans, saying it provides a “competitive edge”.

During a presentation at the Develop Conference yesterday Sony Computer Entertainment Europe senior director Mick Hocking described in detail why playing PS3 exclusives Gran Turismo 5, MotorStorm: Apocalypse, Killzone 3 and LittleBigPlanet 2 in 3D is better.

“With something like a racing simulation, this gives us greater accuracy,” Hocking said.

News: Alex Garland "intimidating" – Ninja Theory

“He told us all sorts was going wrong.”

Celebrated screenwriter Alex Garland (The Beach, Sunshine, 28 Weeks Later) can be “quite intimidating” to work with, according to Ninja Theory co-founder Tameem Antoniades.

Garland has co-written Ninja Theory’s new game Enslaved, but apparently his uncompromising nature meant his influence soon went far deeper than that.

News: Bleszinski responds to Rein furore

Will someone please think of the children?

Gears of War main man Cliff Bleszinski has responded to a UK independent developer’s claim that Epic vice president Mark Rein “is a jerk”.

Yesterday Cliff Harris, who according to his blog “has worked from home for his own one man company – Positech Games, making quirky and original strategy and simulation games”, called Mark Rein “a jerk” for allegedly heckling him during a panel session at the Develop Conference in Brighton.

“And the topic then came up of how indies can respond directly to gamers on stuff like messageboards,” Harris wrote.

Damn it, people. Will you stop releasing so many good downloadable games so I can revert to being miserable about the state of gaming? Every week I think we’re due a fallow period, up pop another clutch of outstanding titles that embarrass most of the games lining up on high street shelves.
