3DS Circle Pad Pro Review

Ever since savvy manufacturers realised that gamers were prepared to pay top dollar for pieces of near-useless plastic that claim to improve their gaming experience, there’s been a flood of largely pointless peripherals for home consoles. Right now, countless Wii Remote tennis racket attachments sit gathering dust in cupboards the world over, waiting forlornly for that dreaded day when they are unceremoniously recycled as landfill.

Traditionally speaking, these regrettable money-wasting exercises are largely confined to domestic hardware. Attempts to augment the functionality of portable consoles have proven largely unsuccessful in the past (remember the D-pad cross attachment that … Continue Reading

Behind the beak of Club Penguin: would you let your child play?

Club Penguin is no hybrid chocolate bar.

It’s a browser MMO about cartoon penguins and their snowy online world of mini-games and igloo decorating. It’s a giant; a business boasting 150 million registered accounts and 10 to 15 million active monthly users. And a portion of those pay £5 every month.

Lane Merrifield created it for his children.

Sony puts a PlayStation Vita in every GAME and Gamestation

Sony has put a PlayStation Vita in every GAME and Gamestation shop in an effort to get the console in gamers’ hands before launch.

On top of that, in the coming weeks 150 stores will get a dedicated Vita Interactive Display Unit. Every store manager in every GAME and Gamestation has been sent a PS Vita so they know what it’s all about and can pass that message on to customers.

Sony brings the PlayStation Vita Room, currently open in Glasgow, to London next month. A venue is yet to be confirmed, but it opens on 17th February and … Continue Reading

You also get Arsenal’s Theo “he’s got potential” Walcott, Manchester City’s James “I don’t know my best position” Milner and Chelsea’s Petr “I’m the best keeper in the world and play for the best team in the world” Cech as part of a DLC pack of four footballers.

Eve Online: A Year in the Life

Eurogamer’s news editor Wes once said that if Hunter S. Thompson were alive today – and writing about video games rather than the counter-culture of the sixties and the politics of America at a crossroads – then he would surely be covering the extraordinary sight of the digital gladiators descending upon Las Vegas to celebrate their shared obsession and do heavyweight battle with each other at the Mecca of fighting games, the Evo Championship Series. Impenetrable to the outsider, all-encompassing to those on the inside: a place where worlds collide.

From my own perspective, I can’t help but … Continue Reading

PixelJunk Eden heads to Steam

2008 PlayStation Network game PixelJunk Eden will make the jump to PC via Steam, developer Q-Games has announced.

The Steam version launches next week, on 2nd February.

It has been re-jigged for release on PC, with re-tuned controls and enemies. The Grimp – the character you control – can now warp back to his last resting position. This uses a little bit of your energy but does mean you no longer have to worry about missing an important jump.

App of the Day: Triple Town

There are mobile games that make the journey from Android to iOS (or vice versa), and then there are games that jump from AAA console title to handheld spin-off. Those first, purely mobile titles grow their stature by catching a little bit of fire, awarding the developer just enough interest and finance to give their next big thing a shot at a wider audience.

We’re going to do our best to highlight those gems that we love which never make that transition – but Triple Town is a little bit different. In this case, both Android and iOS … Continue Reading
